Le Grand Illusion
July 18, 2009 | In: Film
From the infamous french director Jean Renoir, grandson of the famous impressionist Auguste Renoir – the 1937 film Le Grand Illusion is an absolutely fantastic way to spend 1 hour and 54 minutes of your time. Wikipedia describes it as a ‘masterpiece of French Cinema’ and I certainly agree without question.
The film is about a group of French prisoners of war held by the Germans in World War I and their plot to escape. Of obvious notice, is the class commentary/criticism within the film, and the humanistic behaviour of each of the characters.
